Washington Post ranks America’s Most Challenging High Schools

The Post ranks schools through an index formula that's a simple ratio: the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and Advanced International Certificate of Education tests given at a school each year, divided by the number of seniors who graduated that year. A ratio of 1.000 means the school had as many tests as graduates. The Post explains, “The Challenge Index is designed to identify schools that have done the best job in persuading average students to take college-level courses and tests. It does not work with schools that have no, or almost no, average students.”

The index score is the number of college-level tests given at a school in the previous calendar year divided by the number of graduates that year. Also noted are the percentage of students who come from families that qualify for lunch subsidies and the percentage of graduates who passed at least one college-level test during their high school career, called equity and excellence, (E&E). PCHS ranked 821 nationally out of 2,113 schools, and 109 out of 297 in CA based on data from 2014.

PIQE

Fuerza Unida and the Bilingual Office present the Parent Institute for Quality Education

PIQE in partnership with Pali will be working with Latino parents with the purpose of getting them involved in the formal education of their children.

Pali believes that the participation of Latino parents is needed for students to do well academically. To achieve this, PIQE has developed a series of lessons to bring together our parents and our school. The end result of these lessons will be a group of our parents who will actively participate in the education of their children.

Some of the topics PIQE will focus on are: understanding the high school system, identifying the clauses that form part of the A-G requirements, recognizing the importance of the GPA, and other essential topics related to being successful in school.

In addition to this, parents who graduate from PIQE's program with receive a CSU/PIQE College Admission Certificate.

PIQE's meets on five consecutive Saturdays from 8:15 am -11:30 am.
